West Virginia has a rich history with coal. However the coal industry is a topic that people do not know much about. What the coal miners went through is something that should be taught in school but is not. Learning about just how horrible the conditions were and the lack of rights they had is something that people should know about. When going through this exhibit, the goal is to educate people on what company towns were, the dangers of mining, the fighting that coal miners partook in, and how coal first started in the state. This will be done by the use of pictures throughout the exhibit. There will also be a timeline, story map, and a google map. With the collection of these, the audience will be able to learn about the coal in the state and come away with a better understanding of the importance of it.
